NEW The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to perform first, second and third-party audits of OHSMS against ISO 45001:2018 Occupational health and safety management systems: Requirements with guidance and in accordance with the guidelines outlined in ISO 19011:2018 Guidelines for Auditing Management Systems and to evaluate an organisation’s arrangements for identifying hazards, assessing and controlling risks and monitoring and improving the effectiveness of the management of OHS. Participants will also be provided with knowledge of safety management system standards, and specifically, auditing against the international standard ISO 45001 Awareness of auditing compliance with applicable OHS legislative requirements and/or industry specific accreditation or specification systems against agreed benchmarks is also included. The simple premise of this course is that participants will be able to conduct an OHS management system audit following;

  • The audit process described in ISO 19011
  • Using the audit criteria detailed in ISO 45001 and
  • Applying the risk approach defined by ISO 31000

Gain the necessary knowledge and skills for auditing management systems in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the AS/NZS ISO 45001:2018 Standard. This course focuses not only on the core auditing skills but also on communication and reporting skills which can help the Lead Auditor achieve success in the audit. This course uses a scenario-based approach to explain the complexities of a risk-based Work health & safety / Occupational health & Safety management systems audit.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

Explain the purpose of an occupational health and safety management system.

  • Explain the purpose of occupational health and safety management system standards.
  • Explain the purpose of management system audit.
  • Explain the purpose of third-party certification, and the business benefits of improved performance of the occupational health and safety management system.
  • Explain the role of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow up an occupational health and safety management system audit in accordance with ISO 19011:2018 and ISO/IEC 17021, as appropriate.
  • Plan, conduct, report and follow-up an audit of an occupational health and safety management system to establish conformity (or otherwise) with ISO 45001, and in accordance with ISO 19011:2018 and ISO/IEC 17021 where appropriate.
