The purpose of this online course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to conduct an internal or external health and safety (OH&S) management system (OHSMS) audit and to evaluate an organisation’s arrangements for identifying hazards, assessing and controlling risks, and monitoring and improving the effectiveness of the management of OH&S.

Participants will also be provided with knowledge of safety management system standards, and specifically, auditing against the international standard ISO 45001:2018. Awareness of auditing compliance with applicable OH&S legislative requirements and/or industry-specific accreditation or specification systems against agreed benchmarks is also included. The simple premise of this course is that participants will be able to conduct an OHSMS Audit by following the requirements of these standards.

This course covers the following modules:

Module 1: Course Introduction
Module 2: An ISO 45001:2018 OHSMS, this module will introduce you to the occupation health and safety concepts.
Module 3: ISO 19011- Auditing Management Systems, This module will provide you with an overview of the audit process and related concepts.
The below modules will take you through an audit of an occupation health and safety system against the ISO 45001 Standard, based on the PDCA cycle step of “Plan”

On successful completion of this course participants will be able to:

Understand the application of ISO 45001:2018 to an OHSMS
Understand and explain how the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) framework relates to the process approach promoted in ISO 45001:2018
Prepare and plan to conduct an audit on an organisation’s OHSMS
Conduct an effective audit for their organisation or any other organisation
Systematically examine an OHSMS against the audit criteria ISO 45001:2018
Undertake audit activities including gathering objective evidence
Audit and evaluate an organisation’s OH&S performance
Learn and apply risk management techniques to identify OH&S issues
This course does not contribute towards the BSB60615 Advanced Diploma of Work Health and Safety. If you are working towards the diploma, register on the face to face course – Auditing an ISO 45001:2018 OHS Management system.

This course is designed for people who have managerial responsibilities for their organisation’s OHSMS and/or are responsible for managing, monitoring and auditing the performance of the system. It is also designed for health and safety practitioners who have been or will become involved in OH&S assurance audits, second party (i.e. vendor) audits and/or third-party audits.The course focuses on developing the knowledge and practical skills of participants in the principals and practices of auditing the performance of OHSMS.This course also forms part of the five-day Lead Auditor course for those participants planning to become an OHS Lead Auditor.

There are no entry requirements for this course. However it is assumed that participants have a good working knowledge of ISO 45001:2018 and are employed in a relevant OHS or WHS role and have access to an organisation to conduct workplace-based assessment tasks in order to gain the nationally recognised units of competency. SAI Global has a number of non-accredited introductory ISO 45001 courses to assist participants to develop a fundamental skills and knowledge of ISO 45001:2018. It is recommended that this course is completed following completion of the Online ISO 45001:2018 Foundation course.

How long does the course take to complete?
This course is the equivalent of the 2 day in class course. We estimate the average student will take approximately 5 hours to complete the online component and 15 hours for offline activities over a period of 12 months.
